A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

Jawakara Islands Maldives places sustainability and environmental stewardship at the heart of its resort vision, integrating cutting-edge research, conservation, and education into its luxury destination. The resort is home to the largest Marine Research Centre in the Maldives, a state-of-the-art facility equipped with laboratories, quarantine facilities, and classrooms designed to support scientific studies on marine biodiversity, coral reef health, and climate change. This center offers hands-on training for local and international students and researchers, strengthening scientific capacity and fostering collaborative conservation initiatives.

In parallel, Jawakara hosts the Maldives’ first Sea Turtle Teaching Hospital, developed in partnership with the Olive Ridley Project. This pioneering facility combines sea turtle rehabilitation with education and plans for an accredited veterinary nursing programe, empowering students and contributing to species protection.

Sustainability at Jawakara also extends to community engagement and global dialogue. The resort recently hosted the first-ever Atoll Conference, bringing together scientists, conservationists, and local stakeholders to explore actionable pathways for building atoll resilience in the face of climate change.

By linking tourism with research, education, and ecosystem protection, Jawakara strives to balance luxury hospitality with meaningful environmental impact.
